Stewards are leaders who step forward with care and conviction—who see a cause worth protecting and say, “I’ll take responsibility for this.” They don’t just support a mission, they own it. They nurture it, guide it, and rally others to join in. Through collaboration with people, organizations, and communities, stewards turn vision into action. They’re the ones who make things happen.
To answer this question, we need to look at the distinctions between the two organizations. An organization relying on volunteers offers opportunities for individuals who want to contribute to its cause by accomplishing tasks. It relies on the “helping hands” of those who pitch in to get work done.
The Community of Stewardship is a membership organization dedicated to supporting its members who see themselves as leaders as they oversee their service mission or cause.
Members who choose to work on another member’s service initiative are also stewards of it. They share ideas, collaborate on plans, and offer their knowledge and expertise when requested.
Every unmet need in our communities represents a cause waiting to be stewarded. While each cause is unique, the opportunity to serve is universal.
Members of the Community of Stewardship (COS) can take meaningful action across a wide range of causes based on their passion.
Here are examples of causes and how to steward them:
-Become a volunteer board member for a non-profit.
-Put on a banquet for hunger.
-Mentor disadvantaged young women to become leaders.
-Become a fixture in a senior assisted living facility through the services you have created.
-Share your skills through training programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.
-Provide resources and a safe space for victims of domestic abuse.
-Establish a community garden in a disadvantaged community.
Together, members contribute and have access to a shared repository containing their service opportunities, initiative ideas, contact leads, collective leads, collective learnings, and resources supporting stewardship causes.
Paula oversees the submissions and provides ongoing updates of both the repository and current stewardship initiatives.
